JEWELRY CARE GUIDE

Good jewelry doesn't need much, just the right habits.

WHAT YOUR PIECE IS MADE OF

Knowing which one you've got is the first step to making it last.
We work with two of the most durable materials in demi-fine jewelry. Each material is built a little differently, and cared for a little differently too.

OUR MATERIALS

STAINLESS STEEL

Silver Tone / 18k Gold Plated / Mixed Metal

It's water-resistant and won't rust or corrode. This is your easy, everyday piece.

STERLING SILVER

Natural / 18k Gold Plated

Bright and warm, but it likes a regular polish to stay that way.

MIXED METALS (Both)

Stainless Steel + Sterling Silver

You get the toughness of steel and the warmth of silver. Just care for it like silver.

YOUR DAILY ROUTINE

This'll take you about 60 seconds, start to finish.

image

WHEN YOU'RE PUTTING IT ON

1. Do everything else first . Perfume, lotion, sunscreen, all of it.

2. Give it about a minute to soak in.

3. Then put your jewelry on.

image

WHEN YOU'RE TAKING IT OFF

1. Give each piece a quick wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Microfiber's the best.

2. If it got wet or sweaty, dry it off before you put it away.

3. If your silver's looking a little dull, just run the polishing cloth over it.

4. Tuck it back in the pouch, or anywhere dry where it can sit on its own.

ONCE A WEEK

  • Give everything a quick polish with your jewelry cloth.
  • Check the clasps while you're at it. If anything feels stiff or off, reach out we'd rather hear about it early.

THE 3 THINGS THAT WEAR JEWELRY DOWN FASTETS

THIS APPLIES FOR BOTH MATERIALS.

Avoid these and your pieces will last significantly longer.

CHEMICALS

Perfume, hairspray, sunscreen, and lotions react with metal plating and accelerate wear. Jewelry goes on last, apply everything else first, wait 60 seconds, then put on your pieces.

PROLONGED MOISTURE

Stainless steel handles moisture well. Sterling silver is more sensitive, dry pieces immediately if they get wet, and take them off before pools, the ocean, or showering.

ABRASION

Sleeping in your jewelry, working out, and loose storage all cause micro-scratches over time. Take pieces off before the gym and before bed, and store each one in its pouch.

A FEW DO'S & DONT'S

DO'S DONT'S
Put it on last, take it off first. Let it near chlorine, bleach, or ammonia.
Keep each piece in its own pouch or compartment. Pile everything together or leave it in a humid spot like the bathroom.
Polish your silver with a soft cloth when it starts to dull. Reach for toothpaste, baking soda, or anything scratchy.

FAQ's

Can I shower with my Artizan pieces?

It depends on the material. Stainless steel pieces handle everyday moisture well, if you shower with them on, just dry them thoroughly after. Sterling silver is more sensitive, we recommend taking it off before showering. The steam and soap buildup accelerate tarnishing on silver over time.

Can I wear my jewelry to the gym?

We recommend taking it off for workouts. Sweat is acidic and combined with friction, it accelerates wear on plating and speeds up tarnishing on sterling silver. Toss your pieces in your gym bag before you start.

Why is my jewelry turning a different color?

A few things can cause this. For sterling silver, oxidation from air, moisture, or skin contact is completely normal, it’s not a defect, it’s how silver behaves. A polishing cloth will usually restore it quickly. For gold-plated pieces, perfume or lotion contact is the most common cause of early wear. In either case, if the piece seems genuinely defective rather than affected by wear, reach out to our team.

How long does the 18k gold plating last?

With proper care, no perfume contact, stored in the pouch, not worn to the gym, our gold-plated pieces are designed for 1 to 3+ years of daily wear. Without care, plating on any jewelry (at any price point) will wear faster. The habits in this guide make the biggest difference.

Do sterling silver pieces tarnish?

Yes, all sterling silver tarnishes over time, it’s a natural property of the metal, not a defect. The speed depends on how the pieces are stored and cared for. A piece stored in its pouch and polished weekly will stay bright. A piece left out on a humid bathroom counter will tarnish faster. A sterling silver polishing cloth is all you need to keep them looking new.

The clasp on my piece feels stiff or isn’t working right. What do I do?

Different collections use different closures, lobster clasps, carabiner clasps, and horseshoe shackles all work slightly differently. If it still doesn’t feel right after you’ve tried it a couple of times, reach out to us directly before forcing it. We’d rather help you quickly.

How often should I clean my jewelry?

It's a good practice to clean your jewelry regularly. For pieces, you often wear, a quick wipes with a soft cloth after each use can remove oils and dirt. A more thorough cleaning can be done with a mild soap and water solution as needed.

Can I wear jewelry if I have sensitive skin?

Yes. Our jewelry is made of hypoallergenic gold and rhodium-plated stainless steel. This makes every piece durable, non-reactive, rust- and tarnish-free, and perfect for sensitive skin.

Are stainless steel pieces truly water-resistant?

Yes. The stainless steel base won’t rust or corrode from water exposure. Water-resistant means it handles real daily life: hand-washing, rain, splashes. It doesn’t mean prolonged immersion in pools, hot tubs, or the ocean daily, those environments affect the plating over time.

What makes Artizan different from regular fashion jewelry?

Most fashion jewelry uses a brass or copper base, which oxidizes over time and can cause the green skin effect. Artizan pieces are built on stainless steel or sterling silver, both significantly more stable materials. Stainless steel in particular won’t corrode or degrade at the base level, which is why it holds up better with daily wear.

Both stainless steel and sterling silver are significantly more durable than brass-based fashion jewelry. They just have different strengths, stainless steel is the lower-maintenance option for daily wear, sterling silver requires more care but develops a beautiful patina over time when maintained.
